PROJECT BUYING GUIDES / QUALITY

Use A Hotel Mock-Up Room To Approve The Furniture Package

A mock-up room lets the project team review how the furniture works together. Record the room configuration, the scope of each approval and the corrections needed before the repeated rooms are released.

In short: Review hotel mock-up furniture in everyday use states. Check the room with the desk chair pulled out, luggage placed and housekeeping access considered.

Define What The Review Must Decide

List the items and interfaces included in the mock-up. Identify which drawings, finish references and proposed specifications it represents. Invite the people responsible for design, operation, purchasing and installation as appropriate to the project. Give each reviewer a clear scope. A successful appearance review should not be treated as approval of technical requirements that nobody checked.

Inspect Relationships Between Items

Review the bed, bedside furniture, desk, chair, luggage storage and lounge pieces as one room. Check alignment, opening movements and the relationship to lighting and electrical positions. Record issues against the furniture item or interface rather than leaving them as general room comments. Use marked photographs and drawing references to make the requested correction understandable to the supplier.

Keep Material And Product Evidence Separate

Retain the physical fabric and finish references used in the room. Record appearance decisions separately from required construction information, test documents or other project evidence. The mock-up demonstrates the configuration presented for review; it does not automatically establish a performance rating. Ask the responsible reviewer to identify any supporting information still needed for the intended use.

Close The Review Before Repeating It

Use a list of approved items, conditional approvals and items to revise. Assign an owner to every correction and state what will demonstrate closure. Ask for another sample or drawing review where needed. Issue the final approved room set with clear revision references before it becomes the basis for repeated rooms. Keep the review record available through production and installation.

Project Brief Checklist

  • Mock-up room and drawing revision
  • Items and interfaces reviewed
  • Appearance decisions and sample codes
  • Required evidence still outstanding
  • Corrections, owners and closure method
  • Final room release record

Review the hotel mock-up room in use

A room photographed with every chair pushed in may hide a conflict that appears during use. Agree a small set of ordinary activities with the operator before the review. Place the proposed furniture and representative accessories in their intended positions, and identify anything temporarily substituted.

Room stateWhat to observe
Guest using the deskChair pulled out, route past it and access to nearby storage
Luggage in useActual stand or storage position, open luggage and adjacent furniture
Bedside useReach to the table and lamp with the specified bed and mattress fitted
HousekeepingAccess needed for the agreed routine, including permitted furniture movement

Record which activities must work at the same time

A desk chair and wardrobe door might each work separately but interfere when used together. Record whether the operator needs simultaneous use or accepts a stated sequence. Do not silently move the chair for the photograph and leave the operational decision unresolved.

Mark the conflicting items on a plan and attach photographs showing the actual state. If the mock-up lacks the final mattress, lamp or luggage stand, keep the affected interface pending. A temporary accessory should not define a dimension that the final item cannot meet.

The RIBA Plan of Work separates spatial coordination, technical design and handover. This activity matrix is an editorial review aid within that process, not an accessibility or building-code assessment. The responsible project reviewer must address those requirements separately.

When a conflict changes an approved item or layout, use the APM change-control approach to record its effect and decision. Send YEINIHOME the marked room plan, activity and affected furniture references through the hospitality project page. State what must work after the change so the next review can check the same activity.

Questions Before You Order

Does Approving the Room Approve Every Product Detail?

Only the details actually reviewed and recorded. Keep technical evidence, temporary materials and unresolved interfaces explicitly pending.

When Is Another Sample Needed?

Decide according to the change. Record whether a revised drawing, component sample or complete room review is needed, and who accepts the result.

Should a mock-up room be approved only with all furniture in its stored position?

No. Review the ordinary use states agreed with the operator. Record which activities must work together and keep interfaces involving temporary items pending.

Room Package Sign-Off and Change Record

Keep a separate decision for each item and interface in the mockup. An overall room approval should not hide a mattress, fixing or services question that remains unresolved.
