Comparing Compressed Sofa Cartons and Freight Options

Compare transport options with actual packed dimensions, gross weights and package counts for the same order. Carton volume helps describe the shipment, but it does not by itself establish the freight price or loading quantity.
Build the Packing Schedule
List each carton type with outside length, width, height, gross weight and quantity. Identify which cartons make one complete sofa. Keep accessories and any additional packaging in the schedule rather than treating the largest carton as the whole shipment.
Use Consistent Units
For a rectangular carton measured in metres, volume in cubic metres is length multiplied by width multiplied by height. Multiply each carton volume by its quantity and sum the results. This geometric total does not account for every loading constraint, pallet or unused space.
Ask for Comparable Freight Quotes
Give each forwarder the same schedule, destination and service scope. Ask how the shipment will be charged and which surcharges or local services are excluded. Compare handling and delivery arrangements alongside price; do not apply one carrier’s dimensional divisor to every service.
Approval Record
- Outside carton dimensions and units
- Gross weight and carton count
- Pallet or loading constraints
- Same delivery scope and charging basis
DHL explains that freight calculations can involve both actual and volumetric weight. DHL: Chargeable Weight. The applicable calculation depends on the selected service and quotation; volume alone is not a savings promise.
A Two-Carton Calculation You Can Check
Suppose a sample sofa ships in two rectangular cartons: carton A measures 1.00 × 0.60 × 0.50 metres and carton B measures 0.80 × 0.50 × 0.40 metres. A occupies 0.30 cubic metres and B occupies 0.16, so one complete sofa has a geometric carton total of 0.46 cubic metres. An illustrative order of ten identical sofas contains twenty cartons and totals 4.60 cubic metres before any extra pallets or outer packing.
These are invented dimensions for arithmetic only, not YEINIHOME carton specifications, a freight quote or a loading plan. The useful check is whether the quoted package count includes both A and B. Multiplying only the largest box by ten would miss ten cartons and 1.60 cubic metres in this example.
Separate Carton Volume From the Booked Load
Ask whether the dimensions describe individual cartons, a wrapped pallet or the final outer shipping package. Record each level separately and tell the forwarder which level will actually be handled. Do not add pallet dimensions to the cartons contained inside that pallet as though they were separate cargo.
DHL's chargeable-weight explanation distinguishes physical weight, volumetric calculations and service-dependent charging. Use the forwarder's stated basis for the actual route; this example does not supply a universal divisor or container capacity.
- Match the sofa configuration to every carton code, including separately packed components.
- Record outside dimensions, units, gross weight and quantity for each code.
- Identify extra packing and any restrictions on orientation or stacking.
- Send the same revision to each forwarder and request the included delivery tasks in writing.
If the upholstery, component arrangement or packing changes after a sample, request a revised packing schedule before reusing the quote. Keep the old and new schedules together so a change in freight inputs is visible. For a YEINIHOME enquiry, attach that schedule to the chosen compressed sofa reference; do not infer packed dimensions from its expanded showroom size.
Recalculate all three dimensions after a packaging change
A percentage change in carton length is not the same as the change in carton volume. Ask for the revised outside length, width and height together, including the packing used for the shipment.
For a hypothetical rectangular carton, 1.00 × 0.60 × 0.50 m gives 0.300 m³. If all three dimensions increase by 10%, the new carton measures 1.10 × 0.66 × 0.55 m and occupies 0.3993 m³. The increase is 0.0993 m³, or 33.1%. Ten such cartons occupy 3.993 m³ instead of 3.000 m³, before any additional outer packaging.
This is a calculation example, not a proposed YEINIHOME packing change. It does not mean the freight bill rises by 33.1%. DHL's chargeable-weight explanation distinguishes actual weight, dimensional calculations and the charging basis for different services. Obtain a revised quote for the actual route and shipping unit.
Compare revisions at the same packaging level
Record the old and new carton code, outside measurements, gross weight, quantity and reason for the change. Keep unit conversions visible. Compare a carton with a carton, or a complete pallet with a complete pallet, rather than mixing the two levels.
If a component moves into a separate carton, revise both the package count and the relationship between cartons and finished sofas. If only one carton type changes, leave the others on their own lines. Do not apply its percentage increase to the whole order.
For a YEINIHOME (言逸家) compressed sofa enquiry, attach the packing revision used for the price comparison. Keep the forwarder's response with that version so an earlier quote is not mistaken for approval of the changed shipment.
Questions Before You Order
Does Less Carton Volume Always Mean a Lower Freight Bill?
No. Obtain a quote using the actual dimensions, gross weight, package count and charging basis for the selected service.
Can I Calculate Container Quantity From Total Cubic Metres Alone?
That total is only a starting point. Confirm loading, stacking and package constraints with the supplier and forwarder before using a shipment quantity.
Should pallet dimensions be added to the carton volume?
Describe the actual shipping unit. If a pallet encloses the listed cartons, do not count that same cargo twice. Ask the forwarder which dimensions its quotation uses.
Does a 10% increase in carton dimensions mean 10% more volume?
Only if one dimension increases by 10% and the other two stay unchanged. Increasing all three by 10% multiplies volume by 1.1 × 1.1 × 1.1, giving a 33.1% increase. Freight pricing still needs its own quote.
