Bed Slats and Centre Support: What to Confirm Before Ordering
Before ordering a bed, confirm the complete support arrangement: the mattress-bearing surface, the rails or beams beneath it, the connections and the points that meet the floor. A photograph of the headboard cannot answer those questions.
Request a Drawing of the Actual Configuration
Ask for a plan and a section showing the proposed bed size. The document should distinguish solid panels from slats and show how the support is attached to the surrounding frame. Where there is a centre beam, record how it connects at each end and whether the assembly uses supporting legs.
Do not assume that changing the width of a bed leaves its support arrangement unchanged. Ask the supplier to identify the configuration for each ordered size, including any differences between the sample and the production order.
Let the Mattress Specification Resolve Slat Questions
There is no single slat gap to insert into every furniture schedule. The National Bed Federation tells buyers to check the mattress manufacturer’s slat-width and spacing recommendations because specifications vary. See National Bed Federation: Bed Bases Explained.
Request the clear gap between slats, not just their centre-to-centre spacing. Then compare the support drawing with the selected mattress instructions. If the documents conflict, ask both suppliers to resolve the discrepancy in writing before approval.
| Item | Evidence to Request |
|---|---|
| Slats or panels | Dimensions, arrangement and attachment details |
| Centre support | Beam, leg and connection layout for the ordered size |
| Mattress compatibility | Confirmation against the named mattress model |
| Assembly | Instructions and identifiable hardware list |
| Performance claim | Relevant report identifying the tested configuration |
Keep Test Evidence Specific
BSI: BS EN 1725:2023 public scope describes a standard covering safety, strength and durability of assembled adult beds in domestic and non-domestic settings. Naming that standard in a quotation is not evidence that a particular bed has passed testing.
Where a project requires testing, have the buyer’s technical reviewer check the report, model identity, configuration and scope against the intended purchase. Avoid treating a result for a different frame or size as automatic approval.
Compare Quotes on the Same Basis
Check whether the quoted price includes the base, centre supports, fixing kit and installation instructions. List any excluded components beside the price before comparing offers.
Use the hotel furniture quotation checklist when comparing packages. For YEINIHOME beds and bedroom furniture, include the mattress details and required support documents in your enquiry so the comparison starts from a defined configuration.
Distinguish a Clear Slat Gap From Centre Spacing
A dimension between slat centres includes part of the slats themselves. A clear gap is the open distance between adjacent edges. Ask for both the slat width and the measurement convention before comparing a drawing with mattress instructions.
For example, equal parallel slats that are 60 mm wide and spaced 100 mm centre to centre leave a 40 mm clear gap: 100 − 60 = 40 mm. This is a geometric illustration, not a recommended gap or a YEINIHOME specification. It does not describe tapered, irregular or differently positioned slats. Measure the actual arrangement and use the selected mattress manufacturer's requirements.
Resolve Conflicting Support Documents Before Approval
Keep one comparison record with the bed model and size, support drawing revision, mattress model, mattress support instructions and any unresolved difference. If the bed drawing uses centre spacing while the mattress instructions give a maximum clear gap, translate the measurement convention before deciding whether there is a conflict.
The National Bed Federation guidance specifically directs buyers to the mattress manufacturer's slat-width and spacing recommendations. A general label such as platform bed or slatted base cannot replace that model-specific check.
Record the proposed resolution and who confirmed it. Do not close the issue simply because the mattress fits inside the side rails. Physical fit, the supporting surface and the bed's specified connections are separate checks.
Recheck the Support When the Bed Size Changes
A wider frame, a different centre beam, changed leg positions or a substituted mattress can make the previous approval incomplete. Ask for the drawing of the ordered size and an identifiable assembly-parts list. During installation, compare the supplied parts with that list; report missing or mismatched supports before use rather than leaving a component out to simplify assembly.
For YEINIHOME (言逸家), send the exact bed and mattress references with the drawing question. Request written confirmation of the proposed configuration. This is a document-review workflow, not a claim that every configuration has a test report or that a sample approval covers other sizes.
Identify whether the slats are rigid or sprung
A slat layout needs more than a count and a gap measurement. The National Bed Federation distinguishes rigid slats from flexible, or sprung, slats. Bowed laminated slats can contribute springiness to the bed system. A similar-looking frame with a different base should therefore remain a separate sample configuration.
Record the slat type, holders, centre arrangement and any model-specific adjustment settings. Ask for the installed drawing and instructions. Do not infer a tension setting from the curvature in a photograph, flatten a bowed slat, or replace its holder with a visually similar fitting.
Check whether the sample base matches the ordered base
Suppose a mattress was reviewed on a sprung base but the quotation includes rigid slats. Even if the mattress size and clear gaps are unchanged, the sample record describes a different combination. Ask the supplier to identify the difference and arrange a comparison on the intended compatible base before approving the package.
Use two columns in the approval record: base used for the sample, and base included in the order. Record the construction, size, support components and revision in each. Mark a difference for review rather than assuming that the more flexible option will suit every mattress or user.
The NBF advises trying a mattress on the type of base intended for the bedstead. This does not establish a universal comfort ranking or lifespan advantage for the selected products. Send YEINIHOME (言逸家) both base references with the bed enquiry; ask for confirmation of the supplied arrangement and its compatibility with the named mattress.
Questions Before You Order
Is There One Slat Gap Suitable for Every Mattress?
No. Use the requirements for the selected mattress and have the bed supplier confirm the proposed support arrangement.
Can I Leave Out a Centre Leg for Easier Cleaning?
Do not omit a specified support component. Ask the supplier whether an alternative approved configuration is available for the ordered size.
Is centre-to-centre slat spacing the same as the open gap?
No. For equal parallel slats, subtract the slat width from centre spacing to obtain the clear gap. Confirm the actual geometry and the mattress requirements.
Can a sprung-base sample approve a bed supplied with rigid slats?
It records a different bed system. Confirm the mattress compatibility and review the intended base before carrying the sample decision into the order.
